In our last blog post (linked here!) we talked about how viagra works, the fact that both women and men have erectile tissue, and preliminary evidence that suggests that viagra could be effective on women based on animal studies showing that the arousal chemical that men have during erections, cGMP is also present during female orgasms and could benefit from an inhibition of the PDE5 enzyme, the enzyme which stops arousal.
Now we will look at the predominate functions of each of the ingredients in our low libido treatment cream and why they are important for boosting arousal and blood flow to the erectile tissue (the clitoris!). It's important to note that some of these ingredients may be changed based on the individual as compound medicine is tailored to the patient's needs.
Low Libido Treatment Ingredient: L'Arginine
L-arginine, or arginine is an amino acid which builds proteins in the body. The body changes l-arginine into nitric oxide, nitric oxide in turn is a vasodilator, widening and relaxing the blood vessels in the body. Nitric oxide when studied on women suffering from HSDD (Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder) showed that it may affect sexual function "smooth muscle relaxation may then lead to to increased lubrication and wall engorgement of the vagina, expansion of the vaginal luminal diameter...Nitric Oxide also influences the clitoral cavernosa smooth muscle relaxation leading to an increase in artery inflow, increase in intra-cavernosal pressure and clitoral engorgement."*
The important thing here is that L'arginine is converted to nitric oxide by the body during nitric oxide synthesis which increases both nitric oxide and cGMP (yes the arousal chemical we talked about before!)- which is vital to women's sexual function.
Low Libido Treatment Cream Ingredient: Sildenafil (generic Viagra)
Since we covered what Sildenafil (generic Viagra) is in the prior post--we won't go too deep into how it works here, but check out our prior post: Does Female Viagra Exist? A Deep Dive Into Female Pleasure However it is important to note that L'arginine increases the arousal chemical cGMP, and Sildenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor, meaning it supports the cGMP by inhibiting the enzyme, PDE5, that breaks cGMP down. So these two ingredients work very closely together to support the flow of blood around the vaginal tissue and clitoris.
Low Libido Treatment Ingredient: Pentoxifylline
Pentoxifylline is a drug that increases the flow of blood through narrow arteries increasing the amount of oxygen that can be delivered by the blood when the muscle needs more oxygen (ie during sexual activity). The class of drugs is hemorheological agents, and is often used orally to increase blood flow to the extremities. In our low libido treatment cream it will help to deliver more oxygen to the blood and clitoris.
Low Libido Treatment Ingredient: Ergoloid Mesylates
Ergoloid Mesylates is a nootropic or a category of drugs that improves mental wellbeing and cognitive function. It may increase blood flow and cerebral metabolism. The general mechanism of action of ergoloid mesylate is the dual action of partial agonism/antagonism of adrenergic, dopaminergic and serotonergic receptors.* This aspects helps relax the brain and blood flow when applied topically.
As you can see our low libido treatment cream also known as scream cream is a powerful mix of ingredients that work synergistically together that may aid in boosting libido, blood flow and sensitivity to the intimate area when applied topically. It is important to note that other ingredients may be substituted or included based on the patient profile. We will cover those in another session! Stay tuned! X
